Well, the deal has happened that perhaps some of us feared would happen. Barnsley and England U19 right-back John Stones has moved to Everton for an undisclosed fee (believed to be in the region of £3m) on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

Well, the deal has happened that perhaps most of us were fearing. Barnsley and England U19 right-back John Stones has moved to Everton for an undisclosed fee (believed to be in the region of £3m) on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

Despite only making 24 appearances for the Reds, 'he's one of our own' and I'm sure we've only seen a teasing glance of the ability that this player has and are eager to watch him continue to develop. Everton supporters should be equally excited.

What is refreshing to see is that unlike some of the moves you see in this transfer window, this deal is deserved, it has been achieved through the lads very own hard work, honesty and talent. Let's not forget he had his pick of clubs. Thankfully it's not the by-product of a greedy football agent - generating his own commission pay cheque.

Congratulations Stonesy, we wish you every success in your further career. There will always be a warm welcome for you On The Ponty End, and if you ever need a few games under your belt during your development - I hope we have the first dabs on welcoming you back home to Tarn!

Everton fans will be happy if he turns out to be half as good as a certain back we signed from Huddersfield many years ago......

as an evertonion what sporting fans you are, wanting the best for the lad.good luck to you all

Cheers for the comment from an Everton perspective. As I said, "he's one of our own" - so look after the lad, love him and support him and he will run through brick walls for Everton!

I know of plenty of Everton players that have gone the other way. Who's the player you're referring to?

American Evertonian here. Please forgive me for not knowing of Barnsley until Stone's name starting popping up on ToffeeWeb and a fellow Evertonian provided the link to here. This brief acquaintance proves one thing beyond doubt. Barnsley folk are class.

Thanks for dropping by Mattysson. Let us assure you that Stones is not going to languish in Everton's youth and development set up. Expect big things, because this lad is special.

He's down to earth, honest and hard working. Needs appreciating, like we all do!

Trust Moyes on this one!

just sorry we won't get to enjoy watchin' him every week. All the best Johnny, it's been a real pleasure to watch you play. If we survive and build from this season you're a huge part of that. You reds!
